On Saturday 5th September 2015, as part of the Royal Opera House’s, Deloitte Ignite Festival I ran a knitting chill out zone for the Nonclassical Club night. Founded by composer Gabriel Prokofiev in 2004, Nonclassical is a club-night and record label based in East London.

On the night in the main space, the Paul Hamlyn Hall, the following acts appeared: Sarah Dacey, Klavikon, Royal Ballet, Juice Vocal Ensemble, Peter Gregson, Jette Parker young artist, and Mr Switch DJ.

Accompanying me in the chill out space was Tendons, the duo of Harpist Holly Lowe, and musician/performance artist Nwando Ebizie. They devise music combining harp, spoken word and electronics.

To help me teach finger knitting, I invited friends, Helen Grant, Gen Doy,  Sonia Lovett, Brandon Mably, Kaffe Fassett, Tom van Deijnen, and Howard Sullivan. My son (Indiana) and daughter (Precious) also assisted on the night.

As an added thrill to the finger knitting, I used reflective yarn by  Red Heart yarns. A big thank you to Coats Plc for their yarn sponsorship. When photographed with flash, this yarn lights up.

During the night over 200 people were taught to finger knit, and had fun taking photos. The session was a huge success, and I look forward to running more.
