Knitted toy theatre featuring Leontyne Price and Noah Stewart

2016, machine knitted, acrylic

For the Royal Opera House‘s Deloitte Ignite Festival in September 2015, I was commissioned to create a knitted artwork. After visiting the Benjamin Pollock’s Toy shop in Covent Garden I was inspired to create a knitted toy theatre based on the paper toy theatres. The one I have knitted is based on Bizet’s ‘Carmen’. It features Leontyne Price and Noah Stewart. Noah was mentored by Leontyne but they never got the opportunity to perform on the stage together.
