I created this music video for my final project on my Masters in Knitted Textiles at the Royal College of Art in London. It is to promote the therapeutic benefits of knitting for mental wellbeing and to break the stigma of talking about mental health. It charts character Lady Yarnarella’s experience of knitting a ‘Tension Bird‘. With cameo appearances from knitwear designers, Laduma Ngxokolo of MaXhosa Africa, Kaffe Fassett, Brandon Mably and Jeanette Sloan, the film will put a smile on your face.
The character Yarnrella wear blue clothes even her hair is knitted. I used my skills as a knitwear designer to create her outfit. Yarn sponsorship was received by Erika Knight and Wool and the Gang. My drawn illustration are featured throughout the film.
Knitting the Blue was selected to be screen at the Crafts Council’s Real to Reel film Festival in 2019. This was the second film I have had selected for this festival the first being ‘Knitting Ain’t Wack‘.
It has toured to Australia
