Knitting Your Memories

Machine knitted acrylic

In 2014 I took part in a reminiscence project called ‘Knit Your Memories Together‘ run by The Craftimation Factory

Machine knitting is a craft in its own right, and was hugely popular from the 1950’s – 1980’, with people knitting in their homes, creating school jumpers, baby clothes, and much more.

As with hand knitting, it saw a decline in the 1990s, but it is gaining in popularity again.

The artwork I created is based on the memories of a few members from the Priory Knits machine knitting club and the Little Common Knitters.

The patterns on the wall document some of the many wool shops that were once based in Hastings.
