OMG on LK-150 knitting macine

The artwork ‘Soli Deo Gloria’ was designed as a tryptic. I had planned to create three hangings OMG (Oh My God), JC (Jesus Christ) and 4CS (For Christ Sake). Due to time constraints I was only able to produce OMG, and JC.

The yarn used was Aragon Yarn – Classic Romney 100% wool – Tension 18st by 24 rows. On my Knitmaster LK-150 knitting machine I used tension 5 using the intarsia carriage.

When doing intarsia knitting on the knitting machine the yarn is manually placed over the open needles following a chart.

For charting the artwork I used Softbyte DesignaKnit 8 on a PC laptop. The large design was divided into three for the individual hangings.

There is some symbolism in the JC hanging. Below I have outlined the symbols.

Left: Christ looking down from the cross. Centre: The father heart of God. Right: The Cross.

The JC hanging is also hung to the right of the OMG referring to (Hebrews 10:11-14 ‘Jesus Sat Down at the Right Hand of God

The banners have been well received. In an article in the Canterbury Diocese News entitled ‘Knitted banners reclaim text talk for Church The Rector of All Saints, Revd Sarah Williams said: “In morning and evening prayer we use the words ‘oh my God’ and ‘Jesus Christ’ daily and I am delighted that these stunning works reclaim these words to the rightful context of church.
